good bye sunshine.

The one with the most influence?

So, in the wee hours of this morning, where it was a respectable hour at the other end of the globe my friend posed me a rather interesting query.

"Gwen, why do girl get so irritated when we leave the toilet seat up?" which lead to "why do guys have to leave the toilet seat down?"

Intriguing enough that i had to ponder over it for a couple of minutes before i came up with an "adequate" answer which we debated upon for the next 20 minutes or so.

So thinking about it, the design of the toilet gives no clues as to why the toilet seat must always be down. The only reason i could think of is that the toilet seats everywhere are ALWAYS down, it has been that way since i was potty trained, therefore it has become my norm, or the norm of the majority of society. Guys tend to sprinkle when they tinkle, thereby they have to lift the seat up in order to gain a bigger area and thus they should put things back they way they found them - ie. put the toilet seat back down.

COnsider this then, why can't girls put the toilet seat up everytime after they go? What if the original design of the toilet called for the seat to be up and that was how it was in every house hold? Girls do occassionally sprinkle when they tinkle as well. It's a universal quote. Then what is there to say that it is the guys place to put down the toilet seat after they go and not gals putting up the toilet seat?

What i *think* is a gd explanation is - the toilet seat should be always left down is to prevent situations like in the middle of the night when yours truly needs to use the loo and is functioning on 85% sleep mode and does not turn on the lights and assumed that the seat is down from falling into the open toilet...- However, the same could be said of guys who need to go at night and have to bother with lifting the seat, but their consequence of the seat is not as great, so on a balance, the seat should stay down?

Whatever the reason, whatever the answer to my great early morning debate - it still exist the reality that TOILET SEATS are always left down. Who's the more influencial sex, eh? *gRiN*
