I think I have seen enough Fashion Shows on TV to get a sense of what a Fashion Show entails – Runway models, pout-y faces, extraordinary/ordinary clothing, the hottest new look- yup, I had enough experience watching Fashion TV on FoxTel last year – it was considered “soft porn” by those particular subscribers, so yours truly had to endure certain minutes to lengthy hours of it between Powerpuff girls and Pokemon. Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no qualms about watching fashion, in fact, I rather like it, so when Karen invited me along to Joshua Andreas’s fashion show, I happily agreed.
A group of us girls and a total of one male attended together. It was held at Sacremento? Bar at the corner of Toorak and Darling St. It did not resemble the image I had in my mind of fashion shows. No raised runway, no bright orange lights. The runway was the length of the small clubbing room, the DJ’s area tucked away in the corner and chairs placed against the wall for publicity and ‘stage’ crew.
Present, as Karen pointed out to me were reporters from various magazines. I got to meet the designer himself and he appears to be a very nice guy. The waiting for the show to start was a tad boring – trying to amuse ourselves. Thankfully this designer designed guys clothes as well. I possibly positively saw the cutest guy in Melbourne as one of his ‘models’. Boy-good looking cute. Red and white stripes, blue jeans inspired style. It was good. Didn’t like the tops, but loved the pants. The male range wasn’t bad either.
The show itself lasted like, ½ hr? and while it did not have the super sophisticated air and the flair of the L’Oreal Fashion Show and those on FashionTV from Paris and Milan, it came close. Models comprised of RMIT students, who were surprisingly good but one could tell by the way they walked the amount of training, or lack of... (However they could be serious contenders for Search for a Supermodel).
Like all fashion shows, this had an after party at a superb lounge across the road –next to Lotus on Toorak. We were served sparkling wine (which was free flowing) and Asian cuisine finger food for the thirsty and hungry. The interior had soft lighting, music and comfy sofas to suit any butt preferences. Think “LOUNGE”.
The night started early and ended young, because we had no cause to stick around till late and no one got drunk. But it was an excellent experience, tiring, but hey, now I can say I have been to a fashion show and who knows, maybe one day Josua Andreas would be a world renowned fashion designer that is on par with the likes of DKNY?
